Open Question: pocket knife question, california.?

quick question i have a pocket knife from ncstar, iits a small pocket knife with a 3 inch blade and requires u to press a button to open it. what are the laws about having the knife on my person. i go to a community college and im often walking to my car at night and would feel safer if i had a knife on me or in my car. so is it legal for me to have it on me on campus or is it better to just have it in my car?? i go to san diego mesa college btw.....
